A Son’s Love Letter To His Father
Dear Father,
I have been thinking a lot about you dad ever since we celebrated Father’s Day together last summer. This is by no means the first time that I have thought about what makes you such a special person in my life, but I have been far more intentional about reflecting on you in the past few weeks than ever before.
Perhaps I feel urgent about reflecting on your life and the impact because you are getting older and becoming more and more like an old man. I’m not sure; I just know that it is important for me at this stage of life to figure out just why I love you, daddy.
I love you, daddy because you have always been the best teacher. You taught me how to ride my bike without training wheels, helped me with multiplication tables and took me out for hours of driving practice before I got my license. You are a great teacher because you are patient, gentle and a great communicator.
I love you daddy for the priority and commitment he places on our family. Far too many fathers are consumed by work, but not you dad. You have been the most consistent of any parent I’ve seen. I appreciate that consistency so much through my childhood and teenage years.
I love you daddy for the way you love my mother. Everything I know about love I have learned from watching my parents love each other. I am well aware of the rare gift that is, and I cherish it closely. You have loved my mother in front of us so well for so many years.
Love You Always’
Your Son.
If you are privileged enough to have a father, continue to be intentional about loving him and about thanking him for all that he has done for you. There is no better way to honour a parent. To every father that is loving to their children, continue to be the best father you can be. Happy Father’s Day.
